The natural surroundings of us are the environment. It consists of air, water, earth, trees, animals, climate and calmness. Most of the people over the world depend on the modern technology. They harm and natural existence of the environment. It means they pollute the environment. Environmental Pollution brings very dangerous results to all the living beings.
The increased population destroy forests for building factories, new housing schemes, highway roads, and many other businesses and projects. As a whole, they discharge poisonous gases, smoke, chemicals and degradable and non - degradable wastes to the environment.
The garbage accumulated on road sides, in waterways and specially in land fillings is a source for many diseases! Even dengue is based on garbage. Thousands of people including children have died already over this epidemic only in Sri Lanka. People living surrounded by piles of garbage are always suffering due to the intolerable smell too.

Poisonous gases, bad smoke and chemicals create acid rain. That is a disaster. In cities like Bangalore, people cannot live due to the bad smoke; that usually causes people to become sick.
When the chemicals are added to the soil it affects drinking water. Today lack of drinking water is seen as a major problem in many countries. In the past there had been many drinking waters wells in towns and cities of our country. But, today only a few are existing and that is why water bottles are sold.
The soil is also harmed by the chemicals, oil and other non - degradable objects which directly affect both water and the farming industry too. Paddy fields are also being filled with garbage for new buildings.
To protect the environment, people could follow " Reduce, Reuse and Recycle methods ". Many governments have already implemented that including Sri Lanka.
